Evidence-led public information

Why breeding dogs for research should end

A careful ethical case rooted in official evidence and compassion.

The ethical case

Dogs are sensitive, social animals. Breeding dogs for experiments sends them into a system that can legally permit pain, distress, lasting harm and death. If dogs are only meant to be used when another species or method will not achieve the purpose, then every dog experiment is an ethical question — not just a technical one.

What we are asking for

Questions to ask

  1. What level of suffering would you personally consider acceptable if the benefits were uncertain?
  2. Should the public know more about how these decisions are made?
  3. If there were alternatives that could replace some animal experiments, should their use be mandatory?
